He finished his Longhorns career (1995-1998) as the most prolific rusher in major college football history, with 6,279 career rushing yards, 75 total touchdowns, and a then-NCAA-record 6.21 career yards per carry, surpassing the mark held by Ohio State's two-time Heisman winner Archie Griffin. In all, Williams set 21 NCAA records and 46 University of Texas marks. Texas retired his #34 jersey in 2000, and he was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Selected fifth overall in the 1999 NFL Draft, Williams went on to lead the NFL in rushing in 2002 — but his legendary Texas tenure and the 1998 Heisman season remain the foundation of his football legacy.
