One of the Most Productive Receivers in NFL History
Reggie Wayne built one of the most productive receiving careers in NFL history, all in a Colts uniform. A 2001 first-round pick (30th overall) out of Miami, Wayne caught 1,070 passes for 14,345 yards — both totals ranking 10th all-time at the time of his retirement — along with 82 touchdowns across 211 regular-season games, a Colts franchise record for games played. He is one of just nine players in NFL history to reach 1,000 receptions, 14,000 receiving yards, and 80 touchdowns. After succeeding Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison as the Colts' top receiver, Wayne averaged 96 receptions, 1,264 yards, and elite production across a six-year peak, led the NFL in receiving yards in 2007 (1,510), and recorded seven consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2004 to 2010. His longevity was remarkable — he remains the only player in NFL history with at least 100 receptions and 1,355 yards at age 34. Wayne was inducted into the Colts Ring of Honor in 2018 and has been a Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist in each of his years of eligibility, with his candidacy widely regarded among his peers as one of the strongest awaiting enshrinement.
A Super Bowl Champion and Postseason Standout
Wayne saved some of his best work for the biggest moments. He was a key contributor to the Colts' Super Bowl XLI championship following the 2006 season, catching a 53-yard touchdown that opened Indianapolis's scoring in their 29-17 victory over the Chicago Bears — the only receiving touchdown of the game for the Colts. Across his postseason career, Wayne ranks among the greatest playoff receivers in NFL history: his 93 postseason receptions rank 6th all-time, his 1,254 postseason receiving yards rank 7th all-time, and his 67 postseason receiving first downs rank 4th all-time. Paired with quarterback Peyton Manning for the first decade of his career, Wayne was a central figure in one of the most prolific offenses of its era, helping the Colts to a sustained run of contention that included a second Super Bowl appearance (XLIV) following the 2009 season.
